An ant problem in an older building behaves differently from one in a modern house, because there are more ways in and more places to nest inside the structure itself.
Most garden ant colonies live outdoors and forage in. In an older property, some of them do not bother going home.
A colony established inside the fabric of a building is not more dangerous than one in the garden — garden ants do not eat timber and they will not damage the structure — but it is harder to reach and far more likely to come back if the treatment only addresses what was visible.
If your property is listed or in a conservation area, nothing about a standard ant treatment affects the building fabric — but tell us anyway, because it changes what we would suggest for sealing gaps afterwards.
On older property we spend more of the visit indoors, following trails to the point where they disappear into a floor, a skirting or a chimney breast, because that is where the route into the structure is.
The treatment is placed at that point rather than at the worktop, so it is carried back to wherever the colony has established itself. Nothing is arranged until you have the treatment and the price in front of you.
Our current price is £240 fixed price, guaranteed. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Ant Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
In a building with a suspended floor, soft pointing and decades of unsealed service runs, there are simply more places for a colony to sit and more ways for foragers to reach a kitchen. Treating what is visible leaves all of that untouched.
