Almost everyone tries a supermarket spray first, and almost everyone gets the same result: the ants vanish for two days and come back. It is worth understanding exactly why, because the reason is also the reason professional treatment works.
A colony is a queen, a large brood, and a worker force. The workers you can see are a small and completely expendable fraction of it.
It kills the workers it hits. The colony notices nothing important: the queen keeps laying, the brood keeps developing, and replacement foragers are out within days. Nothing you sprayed reached anything that mattered.
It uses the ants' own behaviour. A material the workers accept as food is placed on the active trail. They feed, carry it back, and share it through the colony by trophallaxis — mouth-to-mouth food exchange — which is how it reaches the brood and the queen that nobody can get to directly.
Which is why the instruction is the opposite of instinct: leave the trail alone, leave the ants alone, and let them do the delivery.
We identify the species and the active routes first, and we ask what has already been used on them, because a repellent residue changes where a treatment has to go.
The treatment is then placed so the workers take it up and share it through the colony. The price and the treatment are agreed with you first, never afterwards.
Our current price is £240 fixed price, guaranteed. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Ant Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
The reason the shop-bought approach fails is mechanical rather than a matter of strength. It reaches foragers, which the colony replaces within days, and it can leave a residue that stops a proper treatment being accepted afterwards.
