Not every ant nest in Wisbech needs treatment, and some you can safely leave alone, so here is how to tell which kind you have before spending anything.
Sometimes you can leave an ant nest alone, and sometimes you cannot. Whether you can skip treating the colony depends on where the ants are going, how many there are and how long it has been happening. This is how we would size up an ant problem in Wisbech, from a Georgian terrace near the Brink to a house on the edge of the farmland.
Garden ants nest in lawns, paths and borders everywhere. If they stay in the garden and do not come near the house, they are harmless and you can leave them. Nests under paving can be annoying, but they are not a hygiene issue until trails run indoors.
A handful of scouts in the kitchen for a few days in warm weather often settles on its own, especially if you remove what they are after: a spill, an open jar, a pet bowl. Keep food sealed, wipe surfaces and watch.
A repeated trail along the same route, week after week, is a different matter. The colony has found a reliable supply and is sending workers out in numbers. Spraying will not end that, and the nest, which might be under a path, in a wall or at the edge of the yard, will carry on.
| What you see | Can you wait? |
|---|---|
| Ants in the garden only | Yes |
| A few ants indoors for a few days | Probably, while you tidy and watch |
| Trails returning after every spray | No, the colony needs treating |
| Ants indoors in winter | No, a warm indoor nest is likely |
| Ants coming from skirting boards or floors | No, the nest is likely in the structure |
We follow the trail, identify the species and apply a treatment the workers carry back to the nest, where it reaches the queen and the brood. You do not need to dig anything up. Our Wisbech ant control page has more, and the ant control cost guide sets out what is included.
The price is a fixed £240, confirmed before we book you in, with no call-out fee. Ants that return within 14 days are re-treated free.
If you do decide to wait, set a date. Two or three weeks of watching a Wisbech trail tells you far more than a single afternoon, and it gives us a better picture if you do call.
Flying ants, other winged insects and small beetles are sometimes confused with each other. A pest inspection and survey at £120 names the pest and finds the way in.
With farmland close by and plenty of older housing, Wisbech homes can see ants at the edges of gardens and yards, and that is normal. Our advice is simply to judge on whether they come indoors, not on whether they are there.
