Cambourne's newer estates and landscaped gardens suit ants well, so knowing the signs of a settled colony, from sand between paving to indoor trails, saves weeks of spraying.
New houses do not stay ant-free just because they are new. Cambourne's estates have patios laid on sand, tidy borders against the walls, and small gaps where pipes enter, all of which a garden ant colony can use. Here is how to tell whether what you are seeing is an established infestation.
This is the most reliable outdoor sign. Patios are normally laid on a bed of sand, and ants nest in it because it is dry, warm and easy to dig. Watch for:
A single ant wandering is a scout. A line of them going from the patio door, a pipe collar or the edge of the kitchen extension to the same spot on the worktop is the colony using a route it trusts. Houses on slab foundations have fewer hidden voids than older properties, but there are still plenty of small routes in: around the waste pipe, under the door threshold, through gaps beside window frames.
Shop-bought sprays remove the ants you can see, and the line looks finished for a day or so. It then returns, often shifted a few feet. That is typical of a colony whose queen and brood have not been touched.
Modern homes are well insulated and kept warm. Ants appearing around a boiler cupboard, an underfloor heating manifold or a dishwasher in the colder months means a nest near a heat source, and it is more difficult to reach than one in the garden.
When winged ants appear on a hot humid day in summer, the colonies around the neighbourhood are releasing queens and males. If they emerge inside the house, the nest is in or beside the building.
We follow the trail, identify what we are dealing with and put the treatment where the workers will carry it to the nest. Ant control in Cambourne costs £240, fixed, with no call-out fee, and the price is agreed before we start. Everything is guaranteed for 14 days: if ants return, we re-treat free. You can read the full detail on the Cambourne ant control page or in the cost guide, and a pest inspection and survey at £120 is available if you want the cause investigated first.
Cambourne gardens are often small and open-plan, so a nest under a neighbour's patio can send trails across a boundary into yours. That is common and nobody's fault, and it is worth knowing before you try to trace it yourself.
Call 01223 902388 or WhatsApp us a photo of the trail or the sand and we will say whether it looks established.
