A good number of the nests we are called to are not wasps at all. Where the answer is bees, we will not treat it, and that is not us being difficult.
BPCA's position on bees is short and we agree with it: bees are an important, beneficial species rarely considered a pest.
| What you see | What we do | |
|---|---|---|
| Common wasp | Bright yellow and black, smooth and shiny, narrow waist; interested in food and drink late in the season | Treat — £90 fixed |
| Honey bee | Browner, hairier, less contrast; a swarm hangs as a clustered mass | Not treated — we put you on to a beekeeper |
| Bumblebee | Large, round, very furry; small nests that die out naturally | Not treated — usually leave alone |
| Solitary bees | Many small holes in a lawn, bank or soft mortar; no colony | Not treated — harmless |
| Hornet | Much larger than a wasp, browner and more orange; noticeably deeper sound | Treat — same £90 |
A honey bee colony established inside a cavity wall or a roof void is a building problem as well as a bee problem, because of the comb and the honey left behind. Even then the first call is a beekeeper, and where removal is not possible the honest answer involves a builder rather than an aerosol. We will tell you where you stand rather than treat it because you rang us.
Where it is wasps or hornets, treatment is £90 fixed cost, fully guaranteed.
Identification comes first, because a good proportion of what we are called to is bees and we will not treat those.
Where it is wasps or hornets we deal with it there and then. We explain what we are using and what it costs before the work is arranged.
Our current price is £90 fixed cost, fully guaranteed. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Wasp Nest Removal cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
Treating a bee colony with a shop-bought product destroys something beneficial and usually does not solve the problem either — comb and honey left in a cavity is a building issue that an aerosol has no answer for.
