Professional Bedbug Treatments in Sawston

Why Preparation Matters

Bed bugs shelter in narrow places: the seams of a mattress, the joints of a bed frame, the back of a headboard, the gap under a skirting board. A treatment only works where it reaches. A room full of bags, boxes and clothes on the floor gives them more places to shelter and gives us fewer places we can get to.

When you book, we give you a preparation list for your particular rooms. What follows is the thinking behind it, so the list makes sense when it arrives.

What to Do Before the Visit

The bed

• Strip the bed, including mattress protectors and valances
• Put the bedding straight into a bag in the bedroom, tie it, and carry it to the washing machine
• Wash it on the hottest setting the fabric allows, then tumble dry on high
• Keep clean bedding sealed in a bag until the treatment is done

The room

• Clear the floor, particularly the strip around the edge of the room and around the bed
• Empty the bedside drawers and bag the contents, so we can treat inside and behind them
• Pull the bed and any furniture against the walls slightly away from them, if you can do so safely
• Bag clothes that are lying around, and wash and dry anything that can take the heat

Everyone in the house

• Tell us about pets, babies and anyone with a health condition when you book, so we can explain what that means for the visit
• Arrange access to every room people have been sleeping in, not just the one where you saw bites

What to Leave Alone

Some of the most natural reactions make the job harder. Before we arrive, please do not:

• Throw out the mattress or the bed. They are rarely the only place bed bugs are living
• Start sleeping in another room or on the sofa
• Spray the room with a shop product or set off a fogger, which can push bed bugs further into the room
• Move furniture from the affected room into other rooms
• Vacuum and then empty the vacuum indoors

If you have already done some of these, that is fine. Just tell us, because it changes where we look.

What Happens When We Arrive

We start by inspecting to confirm it is bed bugs and to see which rooms are involved. Then we explain what we are going to use, where it is going, when you can go back into each room and what to do with any pets. Follow those instructions.
