With open Fenland on the edge of town, an inspection in March pays close attention to boundaries, outbuildings and the line where gardens meet fields.
A pest controller inspecting a property in March works from the outside edges inward. The town has older terraces near the centre and newer estates around it, and many gardens back onto open land, so what lies beyond the fence line often shapes what ends up inside.
A family in an estate house at the edge of March keeps hearing scratching near the garage. The inspector walks the back fence, finds a gap beneath the gate and a pile of old timber against the garage wall, and then traces entry points into the roof space. In the end the advice is as much about tidying the boundary as it is about any treatment. People are often surprised by how much of the answer lies outdoors.
We would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need.
We start with where the garden stops. Hedges, ditches, long grass, stacked pallets, old sheds and neglected corners all offer shelter. Fences and gates that do not meet the ground leave gaps that rodents use without effort. This part of the visit is about the route from outside to the house, and it is also where owners can often act quickly themselves.
We then check the places the evidence suggests. Kitchens and utility rooms for droppings and gnawing, lofts for nesting and movement, and bedrooms or soft furnishings if the concern is insects. Whatever the species, we try to locate where it is actually living, because the place you noticed it is rarely the centre of the problem.
An inspection is a snapshot. In March, as anywhere, we cannot promise a property stays clear because activity can change with the seasons and with what neighbours do. It also cannot reach inside sealed structure. The report is straightforward about what was and was not seen.
The March inspection and survey is £120 fixed, no call-out fee, with the price agreed first. The cost guide explains the detail and the inspection page covers the service in general.
