Rat Control in Peterborough

Almost everyone tries a bait from a hardware shop first. When it does not work, people assume they used it wrongly. Sometimes that is true, and sometimes it is not.

Signs You May Need Rat Control in Peterborough

  • Large, dark, tapered droppings, usually concentrated along one route
  • Dark greasy smear marks where they brush the same surface repeatedly
  • Coarse gnawing on cable, pipework, timber or stored goods
  • Burrows and flattened runs through vegetation, decking voids or banks
  • Heavy movement under floors, in ducts or in a loft
  • Torn-up insulation, or activity around drain and gully covers
Not sure what you are dealing with? A pest inspection and survey is £120 fixed cost and identifies the pest, the extent and the access points before you commit to a treatment.

Why the Shop-Bought Bait Failed

There are four ordinary reasons and one that is less well known. The ordinary ones first, because they are more often the answer.

  • It was a new object. Rats are neophobic — BPCA's word — and avoid anything unfamiliar at first. Bait taken up and moved after two days never gets accepted
  • It was in the wrong place. Put where a rat was seen rather than on the route it actually uses
  • It was competing with better food. An open compost heap or a bird feeder will win
  • There was not enough of it, for long enough, to get ahead of the population

And the one people have not heard of

BPCA cites a study from the University of Reading which revealed a new generation of rats carrying a genetic mutation which makes them resistant to conventional poison, and notes that resistance is growing in rat species across a swathe of the country.

We want to be careful with that rather than alarming. It is a national picture, not a Cambridgeshire one. We have no evidence that rats in this area are resistant, and we are not going to claim it in order to sell a treatment.

What it does mean, practically. Resistance is documented and spreading, so a bait that failed is not automatically your mistake, and buying a stronger-looking box of the same active substance is not automatically the answer. It is one of the things assessed on site — and where the evidence points that way, the response is to change the approach rather than repeat it louder.

It is also why we ask what has already been used before we do anything. That answer changes the treatment. Rat control is £260.

How We Approach Rat Control in Peterborough

Brown rat standing on a black refuse sack feeding on discarded food in a communal bin area

We ask what has already been used and where, because a failed retail bait changes the approach rather than simply meaning more of the same is needed.

Treatment then uses products and placements not available over the counter. The treatment and the cost are set out before we book you in.

How Much Does Rat Control Cost in Peterborough?

Our current price is £260. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.

Our Rat Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.

Why Peterborough Property Owners Call a Professional

Buying a larger box of the same active substance is the usual next step and frequently the wrong one. Where placement or acceptance was the problem, more of it changes nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Rat Control Peterborough

How much is rat control in Peterborough?
Our current price is £260. The applicable treatment and the final price are confirmed before any work begins, and there is no call-out fee.
Why did the bait I bought not work?
Usually placement, competing food, or simply that rats avoid new objects at first. Resistance to conventional poisons is also documented nationally and is assessed rather than assumed.
Are rats in Cambridgeshire resistant to poison?
We have no evidence of that and will not claim it. BPCA reports resistance growing across parts of the country; what we do locally is assess what has already been tried and choose the approach on the evidence.
Can you help if I am not sure which pest I have?
Yes. A pest inspection and survey is £120 fixed cost and identifies the pest, the extent and the access points before you commit to a treatment.
Do you cover homes and businesses in Peterborough?
Yes. We take enquiries from homeowners, tenants, landlords, letting agents, property managers and businesses in Peterborough and the surrounding area.
How do I book?
