• Large, dark, tapered droppings, usually concentrated along one route

Rats in the Garden — When It Matters

• Burrows — holes roughly the size of a golf ball or larger, often with fresh spoil, usually beside a wall, under decking or in a bank
• Established runs: flattened tracks through vegetation, used often enough to show
• Repeated daytime sightings, which generally indicate enough competition that some are out in daylight
• Any activity indoors, in a loft, under a floor or in a garage
• Gnawing on the building, a shed or stored goods
• Droppings on a decking, patio or path
