The moths flying around the room are not eating your carpet. Understanding that is most of the reason people spend a summer treating the wrong thing.
Adult clothes and carpet moths do not feed on fabric. Several species barely feed at all as adults. Their job is to mate and lay eggs.
All of the damage is done by the larvae, and the same is true of carpet beetles — the Natural History Museum describes their larvae as feeding on products containing keratin: wool, fur, feathers, skins, leather, silk and dried insects.
So swatting the moths, or hanging a strip that catches them, saves nothing. By the time you see an adult, the eggs are already down in the pile.
We look for the larvae rather than the adults, because that is what decides which rooms are affected and how far it has gone.
Treatment then goes into the edges, under furniture and the harbourage points where they feed. Nothing is arranged until you have the treatment and the price in front of you.
Our current price is £220 first room, +£60 per additional room. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Carpet Moth & Carpet Beetle Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
Killing the adults changes nothing, because they do not eat fabric. It is the one pest where the thing everybody reaches for — a moth trap or a spray at the flying insect — is aimed at completely the wrong stage.
