Carpet moth larvae in a Cambourne home are removed by clearing them from the carpet edges and storage, then treating the floor areas where they keep feeding after you have cleaned.
To remove carpet moth larvae you have to get to where they are feeding, which is rarely the middle of the floor. In practice that means the carpet edges, the ground beneath furniture and any stored wool, followed by treatment if the problem was already established.
It is natural to assume moths belong in old houses. Cambourne's estates are mostly recent, but larvae need only a few things: wool or another animal fibre, somewhere undisturbed and a way in. Adults can fly in through an open window or arrive on second-hand furniture, a rug or a coat. Many modern carpets are also a wool mix, and the underlay may be wool or felt, so a house that was built recently can still hold a lot of food.
Small silk cases the size of a grain of rice, fine webbing and grazed bare patches all point to carpet moth. Short, brown, bristly larvae and clean holes with no webbing point to carpet beetle instead. We treat both at the same price.
| Action | What it achieves |
|---|---|
| Vacuum edges and under furniture with the crevice tool | Physically removes larvae, cases and eggs |
| Empty the cleaner into a sealed bag, outside bin | Stops them re-establishing from the machine |
| Hot wash wool items that allow it, or freeze the rest | Kills larvae and eggs in clothing and throws |
| Seal clean wool in containers or bags | Stops a clean wardrobe being reinfested |
| Hang catching strips | Shows adults are around, but does not remove larvae |
A lot of Cambourne households now use a spare bedroom as an office, with a desk and chair that rarely move. The carpet under that desk is exactly the kind of undisturbed ground larvae choose, and the room tends to be warm and closed. Roll the chair out and check the area underneath each time you vacuum, not only the open floor.
The same goes for built-in wardrobes and the cupboard that holds spare bedding. A moth problem here often starts with one forgotten wool throw rather than the carpet.
Cambourne houses often have open-plan layouts with carpet running through several rooms, so a problem found in one bedroom may have spread under the landing. Our Cambourne carpet moth control deals with the feeding areas, the edges and the places furniture sits on. It costs £220 for the first room and £60 for each additional room, fixed and agreed before booking. You can see how that adds up in the price guide.
