Peterborough has houses, flats and rental properties of every age, and in all of them carpet moth larvae settle under furniture that rarely moves.
Carpet moths appear under furniture because their larvae feed in darkness and avoid disturbance. In a city with as varied a housing stock as Peterborough, that can mean a Victorian terrace, a flat above a shop or a newly built estate home, and the explanation is the same.
In a flat the furniture often stays put for years, and in a rental property it may have been there longer than the current tenant. Carpets in rented homes are also commonly wool-mix and fitted, and have been through several occupants. A larva does not need a long history: it needs wool, a quiet edge and a few weeks.
Textiles also move. A second-hand sofa, a rug from a market stall, or a box of stored woollens can bring eggs in. Beetles, by contrast, can simply fly in through an open window.
| Rooms treated | Total |
|---|---|
| 1 | £220 |
| 2 | £280 |
| 3 | £340 |
| 4 | £400 |
Start with the edges of each room. Look for bare strips along the skirting, silken threads, small cases or clean round holes. Vacuum thoroughly and wash fabrics where you can. It reduces numbers but will not reach what is under a built-in wardrobe or a large settee.
For anything more than a small patch, our Peterborough carpet moth service treats the feeding areas, with the price fixed and confirmed before booking and no call-out fee. The cost guide has more. If you are unsure what you have, a pest inspection and survey is £120. Anything that returns within 14 days is re-treated free.
Offices, shops and shared hallways in Peterborough can have the same problem, particularly where wool carpet tiles or upholstered furniture sit untouched. If you manage such premises, the same logic applies: check the edges and the floor beneath fixed furniture, and tell us what the building is used for when you call.
Peterborough has a lot of people moving in and out of flats and shared houses. Furniture and bedding move with them, which means wool, feathers and eggs can too. Wash and inspect textiles before they go into a new home, and look under the furniture you inherit with a tenancy. It is a few minutes of checking that avoids a much larger job later, and it protects both the carpet and your deposit.
If you would rather talk it through, call 01223 902388 or send us a WhatsApp message with a photo of the edge of the carpet. We will tell you honestly whether it looks like moth, beetle or something else.
Tell us what you have found and where. We confirm the treatment and the price before anything is booked.
