Wasp Nest Removal — March

How Can You Confirm There Is a Wasp Nest at Your March Property?

Wasps seen coming and going from the same spot on a March house point to an active nest, and the time of day and season help you judge it.

Timing matters. A wasp seen early in spring is likely a queen looking for a site, while a steady stream through the summer means a working colony. Knowing which you are looking at saves worry.

March has older terraces near the railway, newer estates and houses that back onto open Fen land, with sheds, garages and gardens in between. The place may differ, but wasps behave the same way everywhere.

Spring: One Queen, Not Yet a Colony

In spring a lone queen looks for a dry sheltered spot, such as a loft corner, a shed or a gap under the eaves. Seeing one crawling on a window does not tell you where she will settle. If you see one repeatedly entering the same gap, keep watching, because she may be starting a nest.

Summer: Growing Traffic

By mid-summer a nest can have many workers. The sign is the stream of traffic: wasps leaving in a line, others returning to the same gap. The more you see in a ten-minute spell, the bigger the colony is likely to be.

Late Summer: Difficult Months

From August the number of wasps around people increases and they go for sweet food and drinks. That is not proof of a nest in your property, but combined with a gap they keep using, it points that way.

An old nest is not a live one. A papery nest in a shed in winter is usually empty. Wasps do not normally reuse old nests, though they can leave a mess. If it is quiet in cold weather and no wasps are using it, there is nothing active to treat.

How to Watch Safely

  1. Pick a warm, calm afternoon.
  2. Stand well back, ideally indoors at a window.
  3. Record the spot by wall, height and distance from the corner.
  4. Check again at a different time of day.

If You Need a Second Pair of Eyes

Where the nest is in a cavity you may never see paper, only wasps entering. That is enough for us. A pest inspection and survey at £120 fixed cost is available if you are unsure what the pest is.

Reading the Season

A useful rule is that the earlier in the year it is, the fewer wasps a nest will hold, and the later it is, the more. That is also why a nest noticed in June is a smaller job to live alongside than one noticed in September, although treatment is the same fixed price either way.

Wasp nest removal in March is £90, fixed, with no call-out fee, and the price is confirmed first. The March service page and price guide cover the treatment, and it is guaranteed for 14 days.
