Tiny flies hovering around the fruit bowl are the easiest fly problem to solve and the one people most often fail to, because the source is almost never the fruit.
Fruit flies breed in fermenting organic material. The fruit bowl is where you see them; it is usually not where they are coming from.
The source is generally smaller and more hidden than people expect, and the giveaway is that clearing the fruit makes no difference at all.
Watch where they concentrate when the room is quiet. They stay close to the source, so a cluster hovering in one spot — a corner of a worktop, a particular cupboard, the base of a bin — is pointing at it fairly precisely.
Once the source is gone, the population collapses quickly. Where we are called out it is usually because the source is genuinely hidden — under a unit, behind an appliance, or in a drain — and finding it is what the visit is for.
We find the fermenting source, which is rarely the fruit bowl and usually something smaller and more hidden.
Treatment then deals with the adults while the source is removed. What we will do and what it costs are settled before the booking.
Our current price is £180 fixed cost. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Fly Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
Clearing the fruit and buying a spray is what almost everyone tries. It has no effect at all if the source is a bottle in the recycling or a spill under a unit, which it usually is.
