Large noisy flies appearing suddenly at a window, in numbers, over a day or two. There is nearly always one explanation, and it is not a pleasant one.
Blow flies — bluebottles and greenbottles — develop on carrion. A sudden crop of large, loud flies with no obvious source is one of the most reliable diagnostic signs in pest control: something has died within reach and the larvae have now completed development.
The flies you are seeing are the ones that have finished developing. If the carcass is still there, more will follow in waves. Killing what is at the window is dealing with the symptom while the source carries on.
Finding and removing it is the whole solution, and once it is gone the problem stops — usually within days rather than weeks.
Sometimes it is in a cavity or void that cannot be opened up without building work. We will tell you honestly when that is the case, what can be done in the meantime, and roughly how long it will take to resolve on its own.
We work out which room is collecting the flies and follow it back, because with blow flies the source is a physical object that has to be found and removed.
Once it is dealt with the problem stops quickly. The price and the treatment are agreed with you first, never afterwards.
Our current price is £180 fixed cost. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Fly Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
A spray clears the window for a day. If the carcass is still in the void, further waves follow as each batch completes development — so this is one where treating the adults genuinely achieves nothing.
