Whether it is a flat, an estate house or a commercial unit, flies at a Peterborough window need a source tracing, and sometimes that source is shared.
Flies are drawn to windows by light, so any building with glass can show this. In a city the size of Peterborough, the property might be a flat in a block, an estate house, a shop with a flat above or an office, and the cause and who deals with it differ between them.
In a block, flies can come from places you do not control: a communal bin store, a shared roof void or a neighbour's drain stack. If flies appear at windows on one side or one floor only, that is a clue. Take photographs, note dates and tell your landlord or managing agent. Some problems cannot be solved from inside a single flat.
In a typical estate house, the usual suspects are the kitchen, the bins and the loft. Cluster flies in the roof space turn up on landing and bedroom windows. Fruit flies and house flies turn up in the kitchen. A quick walk through the house with those in mind tells you where to start.
Flies in commercial premises often come from a waste area, a back-door gap, a floor drain or a bin yard. Windows are just where staff notice them first. A treatment that kills the adults and leaves the waste area as it was will not hold.
That reduces numbers. It cannot treat a shared void or find a source behind a wall.
Whether you rent, own or run the premises, a short log helps. Write down the date, the room, the type and rough number of flies and anything you changed. A landlord or agent can act on that; a food business can show an inspector it responded sensibly; and a pest controller can use it to find the cause faster. Photographs of the flies on a white sill or a sticky strip are even better than descriptions.
Fixed prices matter here too: you can approve the cost knowing it will not change on the day.
We identify the fly, trace the source and treat both. Our fly control in Peterborough service is £180 fixed cost for homes and commercial premises, and the price is confirmed before work begins. The fly control cost guide sets out what is included, and a pest inspection and survey is £120 if you want the problem identified first.
