You do not need a pet to get fleas, and people without one are often the slowest to work out what is biting them.
It sounds unlikely and it is common. The cat flea — which BPCA identifies as the most common species in the UK, Ctenocephalides felis — does not need your pet. It needs a host, and it will settle for you.
Without a pet, nobody makes the connection. The bites get put down to something else, and by the time the cause is worked out the infestation has had weeks to develop. If you are being bitten around the ankles and lower legs and there is no obvious explanation, fleas are worth ruling in or out early.
A pest inspection and survey at £120 fixed cost settles it, and will also find the animal if there is one.
We look for the source as well as the fleas, because in a property with no pet the question of where they came from decides whether the treatment holds.
Treatment then covers the affected rooms. The price and the treatment are agreed with you first, never afterwards.
Our current price is £220 first room, +£60 per additional room. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.
Our Flea Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.
Without a pet to explain it, people typically try several household products before identifying the cause. By then the infestation has had weeks, and none of those products reached the source in a loft or under a floor.
