Flea Control March

Bites around the ankles are not proof of fleas, and treating the wrong thing is both expensive and slow. Here is how to be sure.

Adult flea and flea dirt in carpet pile, where the eggs, larvae and cocoons of an infestation actually sit

Signs You May Need Flea Control in March

  • Small dark insects that jump, usually noticed on carpet or ankles
  • Itchy bites concentrated around the ankles and lower legs
  • A pet scratching more than usual, or biting at the base of the tail
  • Flea dirt in the pet's coat or bedding — specks that smear rusty red
  • Activity continuing after the pet has been treated
Not sure what you are dealing with? A pest inspection and survey is £120 fixed cost and identifies the pest, the extent and the access points before you commit to a treatment.

Is It Actually Fleas?

The evidence that confirms it

  • Seeing them. Small, dark, and they jump — that jump is distinctive and nothing else in a British home does it
  • Flea dirt. Dark specks in the pet's coat or bedding. Put some on damp white paper: if it smears reddish-brown, it is digested blood and it is fleas
  • The pet scratching more than usual, or biting at the base of the tail
  • Bites around the ankles and lower legs — fleas live in the floor covering and jump upwards
The white-paper test is the best five seconds you can spend. Comb the animal over damp white paper or kitchen roll. Ordinary dirt stays dark. Flea dirt dissolves into a rusty red halo, because it is dried blood. It settles the question without a professional anywhere near it.

What else it might be

Where the bites areThe giveaway
FleasAnkles and lower legsSomething jumping; flea dirt; a pet
Bed bugsArms, shoulders, neck, back — overnightDark spotting on the mattress seam and frame
Carpet beetle larvaeVaries; a reaction rather than a biteBristly shed skins; clean holes in wool, no webbing
No insect at allAnywhereNothing found after a proper search

That last row matters. A fair proportion of unexplained bites turn out to have no insect behind them, and we would rather tell you that than treat a property for something that is not there.

If you cannot settle it yourself, a pest inspection and survey is £120 fixed cost and gives you an identification in writing.

How We Approach Flea Control in March

We confirm it is fleas before treating anything, because several things produce similar bites and one of them is not an insect at all.

Once confirmed, treatment covers the affected rooms. We put the treatment and the price to you before anything is arranged.

How Much Does Flea Control Cost in March?

Our current price is £220 first room, +£60 per additional room. There is no call-out fee, and the figure is confirmed with you before anything is booked — never afterwards.

Our Flea Control cost guide explains what the price covers and what happens on the day, and every price we charge is published on the pest control price list.

Why March Property Owners Call a Professional

Treating for fleas on the strength of bites alone means treating without a diagnosis. If it turns out to be bed bugs, or nothing, that is a room treated for no reason.

Frequently Asked Questions — Flea Control March

How much is flea control in March?
Our current price is £220 first room, +£60 per additional room. The applicable treatment and the final price are confirmed before any work begins, and there is no call-out fee.
How can I be sure it is fleas?
Comb the pet over damp white paper. Flea dirt is digested blood and smears rusty red; ordinary dirt does not. It is the quickest confirmation there is.
Could it be bed bugs instead?
If the bites are on your arms, shoulders or back and appear overnight, that points at bed bugs rather than fleas. Fleas bite the ankles and lower legs.
Can you help if I am not sure which pest I have?
Yes. A pest inspection and survey is £120 fixed cost and identifies the pest, the extent and the access points before you commit to a treatment.
Do you cover homes and businesses in March?
Yes. We take enquiries from homeowners, tenants, landlords, letting agents, property managers and businesses in March and the surrounding area.
