Fleas that persist after a pet is treated in March are often following a normal timetable, and this guide shows what to expect and when to act.
Fleas still biting after the pet has been treated is common and does not always mean something has gone wrong. Pet treatment removes adults from the animal. The eggs and cocoons in the house carry on, so a tail of activity for a while is normal. The question is how long it should last before you do something about it.
People in March often ask whether it is the age of the house that is the problem. It is not. A Victorian terrace and a recent estate home both give flea larvae carpet to feed in, and in either one the pupae emerge in the same way when somebody comes in.
Expect to see fleas still. Adults that were already in the house are biting people, and cocoons are emerging as you move about. Treat this week as the time for the vacuuming and washing, not for worrying.
Activity should be quietening if the pet is protected and the house has been cleaned. You may still see the odd flea after a night away or a quiet weekend, since pupae emerge when someone walks in after a gap.
If you are getting fresh bites regularly after three weeks or so, something is feeding the cycle. It might be a second pet, a missed dose, or a large reservoir in the carpet that cleaning has not reduced.
It does not reach every cocoon. A thorough vacuum removes debris, eggs, larvae and some pupae, but those embedded in the pile or in gaps remain. That is not a failing on your part; it is the nature of the insect.
If the timeline above has run out and you are still bitten, our flea control in March is £220 for the first room and £60 per additional room. The price is fixed, confirmed before booking, with no call-out fee, and the flea treatment cost guide sets out exactly what you get.
After the visit, leave the carpets alone for two weeks, with no vacuuming or washing, and keep using the rooms. If fleas return within 14 days, we re-treat free. Ring 01223 902388 or send a WhatsApp message with your dates and we will say honestly whether it is time to book.
