In March terraces and estates, persistent flies often come from bins, yards and shared passages, so professionals look outside the back door as carefully as they look inside the house.
When the flies are ordinary house flies, in numbers, around food and bins, the source is often outside the back door. Professionals deal with persistent flies in March homes by walking the yard, bin area and passage before they ever open the kitchen cupboards.
March has older terraces with small rear yards and shared passageways, alongside newer estates with bin stores and side gates. In both, waste sits close to doors and windows. House flies lay eggs in rotting food waste, and in warm weather the time from egg to adult can be little more than a week. A bin that is full, lidless or never washed can supply a steady stream.
So we look at:
In a terrace, a neighbour's waste may be three feet from your window. In a rented house, who is responsible for the yard may be unclear. We can treat what we can reach and tell you plainly where the source lies. Landlords and letting agents can also arrange treatment between or during tenancies, with the price agreed up front.
Wash out the bin, keep the lid shut, move it away from the door, tie bags tightly and rinse recycling. Fit a fly screen on the window you open most. None of that harms, and it helps any treatment work.
Fly control in March is a fixed £180, agreed before we start. See the cost guide for what is covered and the March fly control page for the service. For an unclear case, a pest inspection is £120.
In a rented March house the bins and yard are usually the tenant's day to day, while drains and structure are the landlord's. Knowing which side the source falls on saves arguments. We will describe what we found in plain terms so you can pass it on.
