Why Trapping Alone Struggles

Traps catch individuals. Against a small number of animals, placed properly on a run and left in place, they can work. Against an established population they tend to produce a steady trickle rather than an end, which is why people find themselves emptying a trap every few days for months.

There is also the acceptance problem: mice are inquisitive, which helps, but a trap in the wrong place catches nothing regardless. Mice run along edges and under cover, not across open floor, and a trap in the middle of a kitchen is a trap in a place no mouse has a reason to go.
