Why It Has to Be Right

Because the next step is sealing the roofline. Seal a roof space with an animal still in it and it gnaws its way out through timber, felt, plaster or a soffit — fresh damage in a new place, and a second repair on top of the first. In spring or summer, seal it with young inside and the outcome is worse and not recoverable.

So confirmation is not a formality at the end of the job. It is the thing that makes the proofing safe, and it is the reason a squirrel job cannot be compressed into one visit.

What You Can Do to Help

• Keep listening, and note the times. Daylight activity is the pattern to watch for
• Tell us about anything you hear, even if you think it is nothing
• Do not go into the loft during the programme — disturbance moves the animal off the routes
• Look at the entry point from the ground occasionally, and tell us if anything changes
• Do not seal anything yourself, however tempting

And Then the Proofing

Once the space is confirmed clear, the openings are closed in metal — mesh or plate, fixed at every edge, keeping ventilation where the gap is there by design — and the route on to the roof gets dealt with. That is the half that decides whether you see us again.
