In March's terraces and newer estates alike, carpet moths gather beneath furniture, and some of the usual home remedies reach only part of the problem.
Carpet moths gather under furniture because the larvae want dark, quiet and untouched fibre. Under a settee or wardrobe, they get all three, and the damage can grow for a long time before anyone moves the piece.
Many March households try the same things first. Some work in part. It helps to be clear about which.
None of these remove larvae that are well down in a fitted carpet, in the wool underlay, or beneath a heavy piece you cannot lift. In a March terrace, with long walls of skirting and original furniture, that is a good deal of floor. Cleaning that misses even a small part leaves enough to start again, so the damage returns a few weeks later and people assume it was a new infestation.
Older houses in March often have wool rugs and stored blankets, so the food spreads across rooms. Newer estate homes tend to have fitted carpet with underlay, which gives larvae a large continuous supply. Both situations benefit from checking rooms that are rarely used, such as a box room or a back bedroom.
Call us if you find damage that is spreading after cleaning, silken webbing, or several affected rooms. We find the feeding areas and treat them. In March it costs £220 for the first room and £60 for each additional room, confirmed before booking. See the March service page or the cost guide.
If the problem returns within 14 days, we treat it again at no charge.
March has a good many older terraces as well as newer estates on its edges, and the two types behave differently. In the terraces, damage is often localised to one chimney-breast wall or one run of skirting. On the newer estates, it tends to follow the carpet. Knowing which you are dealing with tells you how many rooms to check before you decide.
If you would rather talk it through, call 01223 902388 or send us a WhatsApp message with a photo of the edge of the carpet. We will tell you honestly whether it looks like moth, beetle or something else.
Tell us what you have found and where. We confirm the treatment and the price before anything is booked.
